Engagement//Kayti & Nick

Part 1: Kayti & Nick were friends from youth. Just friends. Not friends with benefits.

Part 2: Kayti developed a hushed crush on Nick but thought nothing of it because he ended up leaving town for ROTC and school. Nick realized that he fancied Kayti. He comes back home during a holiday break, asks her out to coffee and the rest is history.

Part 3: Despite their simple and beautiful love story, the engagement was anything but mundane. After much planning, decorating and making contacts Nick gathered his closest friends to help in propose to Kayti at one of their most special locations–Disneyland! They spent the day together in the happiest place on earth and come evening time, they enter a lobby where Nick nervously asks the fatigued Kayti to dance. Nick had asked the pianist to play a Michael Buble tune and as Kayti spins around and releases her hand’s grip with her beau’s, Nick bends down on one knee, ring in hand and his friends from up above drop down a long poster asking the bride-to-be to marry him.

Such a sweet, loving couple.

Engagement//Morgan & Tim

They first met in September of 2008 after many back and forth and seemingly unpromising exchanges…it was about time to throw in the towel but Morgan had a good feeling about this one and didn’t let Tim get away that easy; she gave him her number. Good thing she had a particular inkling about him because good things were about to happen. Tim first took Morgan out to Yard House in Brea and two weeks later turned it up a couple notches and spent some quality time at the Griffith Observatory followed by a beach date and then a romantic yet leisure stroll down Pasadena. In this process of getting to know each other and his/her interests, they inevitably grew deeply inclined to the great art and adventure of geocaching. That’s right. Click and learn if you must. Tim and Morgan were (and still are) avid geocachers. Fast forward to August of 2009, the couple take a mini-getaway to Las Vegas. Enter Tim’s brain for a second: ”What better way to propose to the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with than integrate our leisure past time into the process?” Brilliant. The rigged-by-Tim geocache map directs the couple 115 degrees into a park that leads to a bridge wherein lies..you called it, a ring box! She says yes.

Morgan & Tim are such a quirky and fun couple who are just so right for and in love with one another. They were so into each other that they forgot I was even there. The most natural chemistry cannot be directed or contrived so they made my job super easygoing. I never felt so gung-ho to be the third wheel! Yahh! Third wheel pride!

Anyways, we thought it would be nice to go back to the place where they shared one of their first intimate moments together…The Griffith Observatory.

& now for a change of scenery…

Kristen & Jordan Engagement Session!

Kristen and I went to the same high school but didn’t become kindred until we were both out. When she called me in confidence saying that this Jordan character was going to propose, I was E-C-S-T-A-T-I-C! She eagarly began to ask if I would be interested in being her wedding photographer and of course I said yes before she could even finish her question. Because the only day we could shoot together in a timely manner was on Labor Day, I asked her to come to Orange County in the early a.m. to avoid all the vacationing folks and OC congestion. I had not met Jordan yet and due to the early call time, my first impression of him was his “I am not yet awake” face but I could just tell that we were going to have a pretty epic photoshoot ahead of us. As Jordan gradually became more energized, both him and Kristen enlightened me with their recent love story. Turns out Jordan went to the same high school (as Kristen and myself) but they hadn’t met until early this year through mutual friends and involvement in church activities. Immediately hitting it off and then progressively spending more time together, Jordan very quickly knew that Kristen was the woman that he would spend the rest of his life with and that he needed pursue her as soon as possible. Being the no-agenda, free-spirited kind of guy that he is (just like Kristen), he kept his great grandmother’s wedding ring in his pocket for many days waiting for the right moment to pop the question. The night of August 28, 2009 is when he felt that the moment had arrived. I still have the text from Kristen that proclaimed this exciting moment of happenstance.

The whole session felt like I was hanging out with friends (yes, as the third wheel) and their love for one another is so cool and natural.

Thank you Kristen and Jordan for hanging out and bringing me along to document your new found love. I could not be happier first and foremost as a new/old friend.
